Transparency, integrity, and access to justice: essential drivers for a more cohesive society and a healthier economy.
On Tuesday, 9 December, we marked the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day by taking part in the event “Per un Italia più trasparente (For a More Transparent Italy)” organised by the Italian chapter of Transparency International at the Luigi Sturzo Institute in Rome. Our President, Giovanni Carotenuto, contributed to the panel discussion “L’integrità e la trasparenza nella governance del terzo millennio” (“Integrity and Transparency in the Governance of the Third Millennium”).
The discussion brought forward a series of concrete proposals, among which we would like to highlight the following:
- the strengthening of organised civil society as a driving force for systemic change;
- the importance of building strong “horizontal” partnerships among civil society organisations, leading to shared initiatives, training opportunities, in-depth discussions, and common operational structures;
- whistleblowing as a cultural challenge, requiring a collective (and non-trivial) effort for it to be embraced by society and to ensure its proper and effective implementation;
- the inseparable link between public ethics, trust, and economic development: improving governance also means investing in the country’s economic, political, and social future.
Our Association’s collaboration with Transparency International Italia, along with the many other organisations present at the event (Fondazione Etica – IFEL Fondazione ANCI – ActionAid Italia -Ashoka – The Good Lobby Italia – NeXt – Nuova Economia per Tutti – Master Anticorruzione dell’University of Rome Tor Vergata – Centro di Ricerca sugli Enti Pubblici – Istituto di Studi Superiori sulla Donna dell’Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum), will continue through further joint initiatives, with the goal of strengthening shared tools and strategies in service of a fairer society.
