On Wednesday, 21 November 2018, at the Milan offices of DLA Piper, the closing ceremony of the Know Your Rights program took place, with the participation as keynote speakers of Remo Danovi, President of the Milan Bar Council, and Francesca Paltenghi of UNHCR.
The 10-week legal empowerment project, co-organised by DLA Piper, CILD and Pro Bono Italia, provided 32 asylum seekers, refugees and migrants with various forms of protection with a training on several areas of Italian law [e.g. Immigration Law in Italy and Europe, Employment Law, Housing Law, Entrepreneurship and setting up a business in Italy], for the purpose of allowing them a greater awareness of their rights and helping to achieve their goals in Italy.
Patrizia Circosta, Marianna Gobbi Frattini, Massimiliano Pollavini, Andrea Sonino e Gianluca Albè, belonging to Pro Bono Italia’s network of lawyers, served as mentors assisting two or three participants each throughout the project.
In light of the great success of KYR, the co-organisers are planning to replicate it in Rome in the course of 2019.
