The Guidelines on the collaboration between pro bono lawyers and representatives of the Pro Bono Italia Clearinghouse in relation to individual requests for pro bono legal assistance were developed to provide a clear and shared operational tool supporting the management of requests submitted by private individuals.
The document examines the relationship between pro bono legal assistance and State-funded legal aid, clarifying their differences and complementarities, and defines the role of the Pro Bono Italia Clearinghouse as a point of connection between individuals in vulnerable situations, or whose cases raise issues of particular social, ethical or legal relevance, and the network of lawyers available to provide pro bono legal assistance.
Through procedural guidance, assessment criteria and principles of conduct, the Guidelines aim to promote a consistent, responsible approach that respects the dignity of each person, while contributing to strengthening access to justice and the social role of the legal profession.
