Our first event of 2025, the 53rd Italian Pro Bono Roundtable, was held in Milan on 26 March at the offices of DLA Piper, one of our founding members.

The event centred on a topic of high relevance and urgency: starting from the proposed EU Directive on combating corruption through criminal law, we explored the broader issue of anti-corruption as a Sustainable Development Goal.

Bringing together representatives from institutions, the legal sector, civil society, and the non-profit world, the event opened with a seminar addressing a fundamental challenge for the present and future of any organisation: “Fighting corruption as a Sustainable Development Goal.”

More than 60 participants—both in-person and online—followed the event with consistent attention. A result that strengthens our motivation to continue organising training sessions, public dialogues, and in-depth discussions.

The seminar, organised in partnership with Advisora, AIGI – Associazione Italiana Giuristi d’Impresa and I-Com – Institute for Competitiveness, was opened by Giuseppe Busia (President of the Italian National Anti-Corruption Authority), who joined us remotely and offered valuable insights into the current state of anti-corruption efforts in Italy within today’s complex international context.

A high-level panel discussion followed, featuring Ornella Belfiori (DLA Piper), Gaetano Ruta (European Public Prosecutor’s Office – EPPO), Alessandra Bini (AIGI), and Michele Calleri (Transparency International Italia).

The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session that testified to the participants’ active interest until the very last minute, and with closing remarks by Marcella Vulcano (President, Advisora), Stefano da Empoli (President, I-Com, who joined remotely), and our Chairman, Giovanni Carotenuto.

We were also pleased to introduce three new non-profit organisations that recently joined our network: Fondazione L’Albero della Vita E.T.S., Fondazione Arché ONLUS, and LILT Milano Monza Brianza.

Additionally, we shared updates on ongoing projects—particularly the work of the Permanent Table Lawyers – In-House Counsels, and the Permanent Table on Immigration—as well as the upcoming events on our calendar.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, to all those who contributed to organising the seminar, to our host DLA Piper, our co-organisers, our panelists, our Board (currently composed of Giovanni Carotenuto, Fabrizio Arossa, Federico Fusco, Giuseppina Pagano and Davide Camasi), and to the growing number of members of Pro Bono Italia ETS, whose support makes our work possible.
