The Covid emergency does not stop the Pro Bono activity of Law firms. This is confirmed by the numbers of the third edition of the Italy Pro Bono Day, which was held on 23 November, organized by Pro Bono Italia, Hogan Lovells, Legance – Avvocati Associati, Orrick, Cild, CSVnet, PILnet, European Pro Bono Alliance, European Pro Bono Initiative and TrustLaw. The event, which was part of the second edition of the European Pro Bono Week, was attended by 164 remote participants, representing 36 law firms, 25 associations, 3 universities and legal clinics, and 5 companies.
An event that, as explained by the Chair of Pro Bono Italia, Giovanni Carotenuto, was held “in conjunction with an unprecedented health emergency. Now in its third edition, the Italy Pro Bono Day is confirmed as an important moment of exchange between the non-profit world and the world of professional volunteering, represented by lawyers who, alongside their main activity, choose to put their skills and expertise at the service of the most needy, thus realizing the social function of the legal profession“.
Law firms have always focused their attention on pro bono activity and even more so in this period where justice has been “affected” by the pandemic. “Since 2014 was established in Italy the association Pro Bono Italia, with the aim of spreading the legal activity provided free of charge by lawyers.”
